What is an Igloo?
An event where you can experience the structure of the snow house “Igloo,” which is made by piling up snow blocks, will be held at Towadako Lakeside Yasumiya in Towada City on February 7 and 8, 2012. An “igloo” is a dome-shaped snow house made by the extremely cold indigenous tribes of North America by piling up snow blocks to overcome the cold of winter. It was developed as a new winter content starting in the winter of 2023 to use this “igloo” as a tourist resource in Aomori, where there is a lot of snow.
How to make an igloo
The participants stepped on the snow, cut it out in blocks using a special saw for snow, and arranged it in a circle.
Then, while considering balance, the snow blocks are piled up in a dome shape, and you can enjoy the final look of the finished igloo.
Delicious cuisine using ingredients from Towada
Also, chefs will provide delicious dishes centered around many Towada ingredients, such as Towada rik pork developed for the “igloo making experience” in the winter of 2023 by cooking at low temperature in roast pork, and Aomori winter vegetables (snow carrots and potatoes) cooked at low temperature to condense sweetness and flavor over a long period of time with lard.
