The Towada Lake Festival, which began in 1965 (Showa 40), has carved a history of over half a century as a fireworks display that marks the beginning of summer tourism in northern Tohoku. In the summer of 2020, 2021, and 2022, balloon lanterns were projected on the beautiful Lake Towada with wishes for “the spread of the novel coronavirus infection around the world” and “peace for people around the world,” and the Towada Lake Festival continued. In 2023, which is the 58th year, in addition to the scarcity of helium gas, which brings buoyancy to balloon lanterns, the effects of stagnation in international logistics and prices for all raw materials continue to rise. The event will still be held in a difficult social situation, but this year, we will project the brilliance of balloon lanterns and fireworks in the starry sky, and the light of the lanterns will be projected on the surface of the lake, and wishes for love and peace will be conveyed to the world from “Kaminoyama Towada,” which has continued since ancient times, leading to the revival of tourism in northern Tohoku. We look forward to seeing all of you there.
