Hachimantai DMO Co., Ltd. representative director Meiko Hata will visit the Reiwa 5 regular general meeting hosted by the Towada Oirase Tourism Organization (TOWADA TRAVEL). Hachimantai DMO has now been selected by the Japan Tourism Agency as a “model tourist destination for creating high added value inbound tourist destinations in rural areas,” which is the target of intensive support nationwide.

This project creates a system where tourism promotion creates a virtuous cycle (improvement in profitability and productivity) in the local community and economy over 5 years, and is a model for balancing local nature and culture conservation with tourism. The Hachimantai area is positioned as a “place where Japanese culture from thousands of years ago remains,” and the area will be expanded from Hachimantai and Towada to the northern Tohoku region to promote high added value.

In Hachimantai, Iwate Prefecture, Northern Grande Hachimantai, a commercial complex that provides regional ingredients to domestic and international guests, will open in 2021. The concept of Northern Grande Hachimantai is “Albergo Diffuso (meaning distributed hotel),” a way of thinking of the “entire region as a hotel” in Italy, an advanced tourism country. It shares tourism resources in the Hachimantai Onsenkyo area and plays a central role in the “separation of overnight meals” initiatives for long-term staying guests. Hachimantai City is promoting the development of high-value-added inbound tourist destinations that are attracting attention all over the country.

Towada City is also related to the model tourist area, and the Hachimantai DMO's efforts are very informative about the development of the tourism business, especially food and lodging.
